In addition to the main gift shop for parents, there will also be free resources available including haircuts, balloon twisting, Fun Services Kids Gift Shop (for children to shop for their family members), face painting, professional photography, photos with Santa, and more. A “Kids’ Corner” will also provide activities and crafts for children while their parents are shopping. This is the fifth annual North Pole Gift Shop, and it will bring holiday cheer to over 800 Adams County children. Registration was required to attend the gift shop, and all spots are sold out; however, families can still come and enjoy the free resources.

Veterans and military get free entry into Colorado state parks on Nov. 11
On Nov. 11, 2025, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) will offer veterans, active-duty military personnel, and the National Guard free entry into Colorado state parks as a thank you to U.S. military members. Veterans and military members, residents and non-residents, can visit any Colorado state park for free by showing proof of military service. Vehicles displaying a Colorado Disabled Veteran or Purple Heart license plate receive free entry to all state parks year-round.
The free day pass offers an opportunity to explore Colorado’s world-class state parks and experience the diverse wildlife and landscapes they showcase. Whether you’re a nature lover, an outdoor adventurer, or just looking for a peaceful retreat, there’s something for everyone at Colorado state parks.

All other state park fees remain in effect, including camping reservations, boat and off-highway vehicle registrations, and hunting and fishing licenses.
CPW offers additional military benefits for outdoor activities to active-duty military, veterans and disabled veterans. These programs include free admission to state parks in August, free lifetime small game and fishing licenses for qualified disabled veterans, and a free specialty Independence Pass to visit Colorado state parks.
CPW offices and call centers will be closed on Nov. 11 to observe the state holiday. Call CPW offices ahead of your visit to confirm if Visitor Centers are open.

Byers girls to play in 2A Region 9 Volleyball Tournament Friday
The Byers Lady Bulldogs concluded the regular season 10-13 overall and qualified for the state playoffs with the 28th seed.
The green-and-white will travel to No. 9-seeded Wiggins on Friday, Nov. 7, for the 2A Region 9 Tournament. The Bulldogs will start off the day with a 2 p.m. match against the host school and turnaround and face off with No. 16 Fowler at approximately 3:30.
The winner of the three-team round-robin will advance to the Colorado State Volleyball Championships Nov. 13-15 at the Denver Coliseum.

CBI and Manitou Springs Police Department Request Community’s Continued Assistance in Missing Person Case
October 31, 2025 – CBI – Manitou Springs, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Manitou Springs Police Department is asking for the community’s continued assistance in locating a missing woman, Margaret Woolsey. Ms. Woolsey was last heard from on August 3 and was reported missing on the evening of September 23. Her whereabouts remain unknown and concern for her safety continues to grow. It is considered unusual for her to be out of contact for this extended period.
Margaret is described as a 57 year-old Hispanic female, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build, brown hair, and brown eyes. She may also be known as Margaret Mitchum.
Anyone with information regarding Ms. Woolsey’s disappearance is urged to contact Detective Strider at the Manitou Springs Police Department directly at 719-685-2542.
Information may also be provided by calling dispatch at 719-390-5555. Callers may remain anonymous if they choose. For emergencies, please dial 911 immediately.

Bennett soccer hosting 1st-round playoff game Saturday
The Bennett Tigers qualified for the state playoffs for only the second time in program history and for the first time since 2008 and will host a first-round game this weekend.
The 13th-seeded orange-and-black will host No. 20 Fountain Valley at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 at Paul Read Field. The winner will advance to the second round at Forge Christian in Arvada Nov. 5.

he Board received an update on preparations for the April 7, 2026, municipal election, which will include four open trustee seats. Staff outlined plans to begin public notification in December and to host a community engagement event early next year to encourage civic participation and inform residents about running for local office. Bennett Update: Muegge Way Phase 1 Change Order Authorization
The Board approved a Change Order with ECI Site Construction Management, for completion of Phase 1 of the Muegge Way project. The developer will fully reimburse the Town for the change order. This phase will create southern access from Civic Center Drive to Town Hall and the new Civic Center Park facilities, ensuring connectivity for the park’s anticipated Spring 2026 opening. -
Bennett Update: Wastewater Reclamation Facility Expansion – Power Conditioner Installation
The Board tabled discussion on the proposed change order for the Wastewater Reclamation Facility Expansion project pending additional input from the project contractor, Aqua Engineering. The change order would authorize installation of four power conditioners to improve power reliability and protect the facility’s new MBR treatment equipment. -
Bennett Update: Public Hearing Set for Building Code Updates
The Board scheduled a public hearing for November 18, 2025, for the second reading of an ordinance adopting the 2024 International Building Codes and related state-required updates. The ordinance includes adoption of the 2024 ICC code cycle, the Colorado Model Electric and Solar Ready Code and the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code. In line with previous Board direction, the update maintains sprinkler requirements for townhomes while exempting one- and two-family dwellings. -
Bennett Update: Sales Tax Bond Discussion
The Board directed staff to move forward with preparations for a potential bond issuance and ballot question for the April 2026 municipal election. The proposed action would refund the Town’s 2016 bonds and issue new debt, supported by the existing 1% sales tax, to fund key road and infrastructure improvements, including Kiowa Bennett Road, Bridge 304 rehabilitation and Marketplace infrastructure upgrades. Next steps include conducting a community survey in November and preparing draft ballot language for future Board consideration.
