Delays of up to 10 minutes are expected Monday through Friday. Two bridges will be replaced between mileposts 139 and 142. Deer Trail football at Cripple Creek delayed again; game to resume tomorrow

    by Steven Vetter, Managing Editor

DEER TRAIL — The Deer Trail Eagles will have to wait another day before resuming their early September game at Cripple Creek-Victor.

The red-and-white was supposed to make the trip back to the historic gaming town yesterday to resume the game but weather prevented the trip from happening. As a result, the game will restart tomorrow at 2 p.m.

When the game was first postponed early last month, the Eagles were up on the Pioneers 31-14 with about 9 minutes left to go in the third quarter. Several lightning delays pushed the game too late and it was suspended because of darkness and the lack of lights at the Cripple Creek field.

The red-and-white received their first win of the season this past Friday via forfeit from Cheraw.

    Quotes:

Jason Crow: “The 6th Congressional District deserves a representative that puts Colorado values ahead of Washington special interests, especially when it comes to our air and water, public lands and local economy. I look forward to discussing these important issues facing our community.”

Levi Tillemann: “Tonight’s forum is an opportunity to hear voters’ concerns and priorities on the issues that matter most to our community (e.g. the environment, economy, immigration, government accountability and education). I’ve spent my life building a stronger, cleaner economy as an innovator, entrepreneur, and member of the Obama administration. In the process, I’ve helped some of the world’s most innovative companies prepare for the future and I look forward to doing the same thing for Colorado.”

David Aarestad: “This forum represents an important opportunity for the people of the 6th district to compare the people seeking to represent them.  We want to thank EDF Action and their partner groups for this service and look forward to participating in a vigorous debate.”

EDF Action: “Participation, accountability and transparency are core principles of our democracy. That’s why EDF Action is thrilled to provide a platform for the candidates running to represent Colorado’s 6th Congressional District to articulate their priorities and values while addressing the questions posed by the community. Our hope is that the innovative format of this candidate forum will serve as a template for Coloradans to have increased access to candidates and encourage a more open and participatory democracy.”

Strengthening Democracy Colorado: “Strengthening Democracy Colorado is excited to be a part of this event.  Our mission is to build a society that works for all of Colorado by building a democracy that does.  This event will help fulfill that vision. It gives Coloradans an opportunity to share their priorities and needs with candidates for public office, and gain the insight they need to feel like their vote matters come election day.” Indivisible CO CD-6: “Indivisible CO CD-6 is excited about getting to know where Congressional District 6 candidates stand on issues that we care about well before the 2018 election. Lady Indians seeded No. 3; host 3A regional bracket Saturday

    by Steven Vetter, Managing Editor

STRASBURG — The Strasburg Lady Indians concluded their season with a 3-2 victory at Eaton Oct. 7 and in the process won another league title; however, the red-and-black enter the 3A softball postseason seeded third, behind Brush and Eaton.

The Colorado High School Activities Association released its softball tournament brackets earlier this morning, including eight three-team brackets in the 3A classification. All 3A regional action is slated for Saturday with Strasburg (15-4 on the year) expected to play about 12:15 p.m. against the winner of a 10 a.m. game between Sterling (9-9) and Montezuma-Cortez (9-10-1).

In most cases the top eight seeds host regionals, but this year has two sites that are hosted by lower-seeded teams because they won their conference titles. La Junta is seeded No. 6 but will play at 11th-seeded Limon. No. 8 seeded University must travel to Meeker for its regional tournament.

All 3A regional pairings are below:

Limon recognized for use of Lottery funding

DENVER — More than just an educational hub, a new school in Limon is improving the quality of life for the entire community.

The town of Limon received a Colorado Lottery Starburst Award for using Lottery proceeds to create the Limon Public School. The project was made possible with two Lottery-funded grants: $18 million from Building Excellent Schools Today and $114,000 from Great Outdoors Colorado.

Limon Public School replaced an older facility that had too many exterior doors, asbestos, inadequate drainage, and additions that were nearly 90 years old.

The new school costs less to operate and maintain. The town also acquired a grant for a new playground to be built simultaneously.
