Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig, “the Day of the Festival of Patrick”), is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland. The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, celebrating the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, cèilidhs, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Christians attend church services and historically the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol are lifted for the day, which encouraged and propagated the holiday’s tradition of alcohol consumption. The iconic three leaf clover actually represents the holy trinity: 1. the Father, 2. The Son, and 3. the Holy Spirit. Saint Patrick’s Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador (for provincial government employees), and the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora around the world, especially in Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand. Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival. – Wikipedia

DENVER, Colo. —Small-business owners from around Colorado will gather in the State Capitol, Thursday, March 16th, for the National Federation of Independent Business’s annual Small Business Day.
“This year’s gathering is especially timely given a House committee’s recent rejection of Senate Bill 1, a mild regulatory reform measure that passed the upper chamber with bipartisan support,” said Tony Gagliardi, Colorado state director for NFIB, the nation’s largest and leading small-business advocacy association. “The House committee promised a different regulatory relief measure, and now its members have the opportunity to meet with small-business owners to get their insights.”
Convening small-business owners will visit various legislators in the morning to reinforce the message that small businesses are not smaller versions of bigger businesses. They have a tougher time remaining solvent. “Colorado small businesses employed 1.1 million people, or 48.6% of the private workforce, in 2014,” according to the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy.
Eric Wallace, co-founder of Left Hand Brewing, will give the luncheon address at the Warwick Hotel. Prior entrepreneurial legends speaking at NFIB’s Small Business Day have included Jake Jabs of American Furniture (2016) and Food Network chef Keegan Gerhard (2015). Wallace’s Left Hand Brewing is one of the most honored and recognized breweries in the state, with over 28 Great American Beer Festival medals, 11 World Beer Cup awards, and 9 European Beer Star awards.
Small Business Day is open to all small-business owners, regardless of NFIB membership. The cost to attend is $20 per person, which covers both breakfast and lunch. Reservations can be made with NFIB Grassroots Manager Stacy Jenkins at 1-866-307-2846 or by email at .
NFIB thanks its sponsors for their generous support of the event: Pinnacol Assurance, Kaiser Permanente, and Premier Employer Services. Reporters and editors wishing to attend parts or all of the event are welcome at no charge.
What: 2017 Small Business Day at the Capitol
When: Thursday, March 16, @ 8:30 a.m.
Registration & Breakfast: Outside the Old Supreme Court Chambers in the Capitol
Who: Keynote Luncheon with Eric Wallace @ Millennium Ballroom, Warwick Hotel, 12 p.m.
The parade starts at 9:30 a.m., but folks come as early as 6 a.m. to stake out a spot.To catch all the action, the best spectating spot is south of 20th Avenue on Blake Street (renamed Tooley Street for the parade). This area tends to be crowded, so the best place for families to watch the parade is near the end, on Blake Street from 23rd to 27th avenues. The Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a festive and fun event for all ages that celebrates Irish culture and heralds the start of spring. It’s one of the largest St. Patty’s day parades west of the Mississippi, and the largest annual parade in Denver, with more than 200,000 people lining the route to enjoy horses and stagecoaches, marching bands, dancers, floats and Irish-themed fun with a Western flair.

CENTENNIAL — The public can step back in time and come visit a 155-year old farm which served as a resting stop for pioneers traveling by wagon on the Smoky Hill Trail in the early 1800s.
Arapahoe County is inviting the public to visit the 17 Mile House Farm Park at an open house from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, March 11, to learn about the historic property and its significance to the Old West. The park is located at 8181 S. Parker Rd., Centennial.
Volunteers from the Cherry Creek Valley Historical Society will be dressed in period costumes and will provide history of the property along with free house tours. Special demonstrations will include wool spinning, quilting and butter churning. Previous residents of the house will also tell stories and tales about growing up at 17 Mile House in the 1940s and ’50s on their dairy farm.
The Arapahoe County heritage area includes a house, red barn, silo and milk shed, which were restored to their known condition in the early 1900s. The 17 Mile House is the only mile house in Colorado in its original rural setting. Other features at the farm house include two replica windmills, 30 acres of open space, a trailhead to the Cherry Creek Regional Trail, picnic tables, parking and restrooms.
The Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners will provide guided nature walks to Cherry Creek, we’ll have a live bird and raptor presentation and an old 1940’s dump truck for viewing.
The 17 Mile House Farm Park is managed by Arapahoe County Open Space. For more information, visit http://arapahoegov.com.
