    Governor Polis Deploying Colorado National Guard to Washington, D.C. for Presidential Inauguration

    DENVER –  Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed an Executive Order activating members of the Colorado National Guard to assist with the 59th Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C.

     “Colorado will proudly do our part, joining 40 other states across our great nation in sending members of our National Guard to the nation’s capital for our country’s upcoming Presidential inauguration on January 20th. The presence of the Colorado National Guard and others will help ensure our nation’s capital and all Americans in attendance including those who call it home and members of our federal government are safe and protected during this peaceful transition of power that has occurred in our country for hundreds of years,” said Governor Polis. 

    Governor Polis is taking this action at the request of the Washington, D.C. National Guard. Colorado’s National Guard is made up of 5,600 brave and dedicated members which ensures that the State will continue to have protection at home while some of our members are sent to Washington. At this time, the State will deploy at least 200 members of the National Guard to Washington, D.C. and this is subject to change.

    Colorado National Guard Soldiers conduct winter training in Vai

    CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Colorado Army National Guard Soldiers will conduct annual ski and winter training in Vail, Colorado, Feb. 14-17, 2020.

    This training will enhance the Soldiers’ mountain skills while honoring Colorado as the original home of the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division.

    “Testing our warriors’ skills in a winter environment is critical to their readiness,” The Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Michael Loh said.  “We’re also following a proud legacy of service handed down by our 10th Mountain veterans who first trained in Colorado.”   

    Many 10th Mountain veterans returned to Colorado following World War II and laid the foundations of Colorado’s ski industry.

    This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Riva Ridge in Italy, where 10th Mountain Soldiers defeated Nazi forces on the slopes of the northern Apennine Mountains.

    Additionally the CONG’s 157th Infantry is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Dachau labor camp led by CONG U.S. Army Lt. Col. Felix Sparks.

    A COARNG UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter used for mountain search and rescue and other domestic operations will land on Vail Mountain and be open to the public for viewing. The public will have the opportunity to view other equipment including a Small Unit Support Vehicle and a High Mobility Multi-Wheeled Vehicle. The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and High-yield Explosives Enhanced Response Force Package, a Special Forces all-terrain utility vehicle, and other team and individual military equipment used in high-altitude military and rescue operations will also be on view.

    While training, members of the 1st Battalion, 157th Infantry Regiment (Mountain), will ski with the public, build snow caves, and demonstrate the CONG’s mountain infantry capabilities. Soldiers will also participate in a tribute parade and host a military ski race, both in Vail.

    The events are open to the public, however some of the events may only be available to lift ticket holders.

    Recruiters and unit representatives will be available to discuss the CONG’s missions and enlistment benefits.

  • Colorado National Guard aviation battalion mobilizing three units

    Colorado National Guard aviation battalion mobilizing three units

    CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Colorado National Guard Soldiers from Company A, Company D and Headquarters-Headquarters Company, 2nd General Support Aviation Battalion 135th Aviation Regiment will be honored at a departure ceremony on Buckley Air Force Base Jan. 2, 2020, at 3 p.m.

    Family, friends and dignitaries will gather at the at the Chief Warrant Officer 5 David R. Carter Army Aviation Support Facility on Buckley AFB, in Aurora, Colorado, to bid a farewell to approximately 130 Soldiers as they prepare to depart for a yearlong deployment to Southwest Asia.

    “These warriors are trained and ready to provide support to troops on the ground and will excel at any mission that comes their way,” the Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Mike Loh said. “The commitment of these Soldiers, as well as their families and employers, should make all Coloradans proud.”

    Based out of Buckley AFB, in Aurora, the 2-135th GSAB will conduct air movement, air assault, casualty evacuation, combat support and combat service support for aviation operations throughout the designated area of responsibility to employ and sustain combat power.

    Civic Leaders from throughout Colorado, hosted by the Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Michael Loh, depart for Public Affairs travel to observe F-16 training at the CONG’s Airburst Range, near Fort Carson, Colorado.

    The units also support civil authorities annually during wildfire response efforts and save an average to 20 lives annually through mountain search and rescue missions.

    One year ago today, Company B, Detachment 1,  2-135th GSAB, the CONG’s heavy lift aviation unit operating CH-47 Chinook helicopters, deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

    Colorado’s Governor, Adjutant General to preside over Colorado State Capitol holiday tree lighting

    CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and The Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Michael Loh will preside over the State of Colorado Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony  at the north foyer of the State Capitol, Denver, Dec. 5, 2019, at 11:30 a.m.

    The State of Colorado’s Holiday tree tradition follows very closely with those ceremonies celebrated in all 50 states.  The 2019 Colorado tree is decorated in the states colors – red, white, blue and gold – which honors all those who serve under the Colorado state flag.

    The Governor’s Office and Capitol Complex Grounds Employees decorate the tree.The tree is a sub-alpine fir.  The Colorado State Forest Service, Fort Collins, Colorado, harvested it at 8,500 feet in northern Larimer County on State Trust Land as part of wildfire mitigation efforts.  A Colorado National Guard color guard and 101st Army Band will also participate in the ceremony. The ceremony is open to the public. The State Capitol is at 200 East Colfax, Denver, CO 80203.
