Department of Natural Resources Announces February Meeting of Colorado Geographic Naming Advisory Board

The Colorado Department of Natural Resources announced the February meeting of the Colorado Geographic Naming Advisory Board (Board). The Board was established by Governor Jared Polis to evaluate proposals concerning name changes, new names, and name controversies of geographic features and certain public places in the State of Colorado and then make official recommendations to the Governor.

The February morning meeting will continue the orientation of the board, including nominating and approval of officers, and consideration of its decision making processes.

Anythink® launches One Kind Word Project

WHAT: Anythink invites the community to celebrate connection and compassion as part of the One Kind Word Project. This three-week initiative encourages customers to share messages of kindness through personal notes and recordings. Residents can pick up notecards and artistic supplies at their local Anythink to create custom cards that spread cheer to those in need. Cards can be returned to the library, where they will be collected and distributed to organizations across Adams County, including Cold Weather Care, Comfort Keepers, Eagle View Adult Center, International Hearing Dog, Inc., Mapleton School District, Project Angel Heart and The Senior Hub. In addition, individuals can call 303-405-3222 to leave or hear uplifting messages from fellow community members. Messages will be broadcast online and on 91.9 FM at Anythink’s locations. To provide inspiration and celebrate connection, Anythink is also hosting several virtual workshops with author Kat Vellos and Colorado poet laureate Bobby LeFebre. These workshops are free and open to all; advance registration required at anythinklibraries.org.

Colorado Missing Persons Day—February 4, 2021
Although Colorado’s Missing Persons Day will look a little different this year, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will honor more than *600 individuals currently missing for more than a year in the State of Colorado. This year, the CBI invites families to visit the Bureau’s website to view a short video from both members of the Colorado Legislature and the CBI to remember those missing and their families.

The names of those currently missing in our state for more than one year, as well as a copy of the Resolution can be found on the CBI website. Due to the virtual nature of this year’s event, the CBI invites family members and friends to share a short tribute about their loved one on the Colorado Missing Persons Day Memoriam page created in their honor. www.forevermissed.com/coloradomissingpersonsday

“The pandemic has impacted our plans for this year’s Colorado Missing Persons Day, and I’m deeply disappointed that we cannot host this event at the Capitol to honor the missing and to recognize the devastating journey their families have endured,” said CBI Director John Camper. “While we cannot gather in person, it’s important to remember that we at the CBI never forget the struggles of the families of the missing. Marshalling our resources and those of our partner agencies to seek new leads is a top priority to shed new light on these critical cases.”

Colorado’s Missing Persons Day is being sponsored by the offices of Colorado State Senators Jerry Sonnenberg and Rhonda Fields.

Vaccination Update: Telephone Town Hall

Arapahoe County will lead a virtual town hall to discuss the latest COVID vaccination developments as they pertain to the counties overseen by the Tri-County Health Department. Officials from Arapahoe County will be joined by leadership from Adams and Douglas counties, and Tri-County Health officials will be on hand to take questions and provide updates.

Byers, ‘Burg tip off season tonight; games available online

Both the Byers and Strasburg High School boys and girls commence the COVID-19 Season B tonight on the hardwood, and while visitors into gyms are limited, both sets of contests can be viewed online.

Byers travels to Kiowa tonight to face off with the host Indians. The varsity girls game is slated to start at 5 p.m. with the varsity boys to follow at 7 p.m. Both games are available to view on the Kiowa Athletics YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBrHhgJmTULn01bO-QMj49w.

State Fire Agency Announces Community Risk Reduction Week 2021

The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) is taking part in Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Week. CRR Week is a grass-roots effort by an informal group of fire safety professionals from across the nation. The goal of CRR is to reduce the occurrence and impact of emergency events for both community members and emergency responders.

CRR Week 2021 will take place Monday, January 18, 2021, through Sunday, January 24, 2021. It will kick off on Martin Luther King Day, which is a national day of service.

The idea is to help promote the awareness of CRR within the fire service by having a week where everyone can do CRR programs and demonstrate its importance to the fire service.

Throughout the week, DFPC will publish one video a day, discussing the importance of community risk reduction.
