    Denver Metro Action Day for Visibility

    Indoor Burning Restrictions in Effect

    This is the Denver Metro Air Pollution Forecast effective 4PM on Thursday, March 1, 2018:

    An Action Day for Visibility is now in effect for the seven-county Denver-Boulder metropolitan area . Indoor Burning Restrictions and requests to limit driving are now in effect until at least 4 PM Friday, March 2, 2018. Poor visibility and an exceedance of the state visibility standard are expected on Friday. Otherwise, good or moderate air quality conditions are expected. No other air quality advisories are in effect.

    Stagnate conditions and limited ventilation overnight through the morning hours will allow visibility to become Poor within the Denver Metro Area on Friday. Conditions will improve during the afternoon hours as mixing and ventilation increase.

    A poorly maintained vehicle pollutes more than a well maintained one. If you must drive, properly maintain your vehicle. We’ll all breathe easier!

    At 2PM (MST), Thursday, 3/1/2018 the highest AQI value was 44 for Particulate less than 2.5 micrometers which indicates Good air quality.

    FRONT RANGE AIR QUALITY FORECAST:
    Thursday, March 1, 2018, 2:30 PM MST

    Ozone concentrations are expected to be in the Good category on Thursday and Friday.

    Fine Particulate Matter concentrations are expected to be in the Good to Moderate range on Thursday And Friday. Moderate concentrations of fine particulates are most likely for locations within the Denver Metro Area on Thursday, and extending northward to Greeley on Friday. Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion in these areas on Thursday and Friday.

    Carbon Monoxide concentrations are expected to be in the Good category on Thursday and Friday.

    Nitrogen Dioxide concentrations are expected to be in the Good to Moderate range on Thursday and Friday. Moderate concentrations of nitrogen dioxide are most likely for locations within the Denver Metro area near busy roadways, particularly between the hours of 6-10 AM.     Visibility on Friday is expected to be Moderate to Poor, improving during the afternoon hours.

    For the second straight year, the Strasburg Indians will play their regional tournament at Bruce Randolph High School where Denver School of Science & Technology-Stapleton will again be the host. The No. 9-seeded Indians will first take on 24th-seeded The Pinnacle at approximately 7 p.m. Friday (March 2). The winner will take on the winner of No. 8 DSST and 25th-seeded Montezuma-Cortez at 12 p.m., Saturday. The DSST and Montezuma-Cortez game tips off at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

    The winner of Saturday’s regional final advances to the 3A boys Elite Eight March 8-10 on the campus of the University of Denver.

    BYERS — The Byers girls enter the 2A state playoffs the No. 28 seed with a 9-13 record and will make a trip to southeast Colorado for this weekend’s regional round.

    The green-and-white will travel to Swink March 2 to take on the fifth-seeded Lady Lions (19-2 overall) at 5:30 p.m.

    The winner will take on the winner of 12th-seeded Wray (17-5) and No. 21 Colorado Springs School (17-5) in the regional finals at 3 p.m. Saturday.

    The team coming out of the four-team bracket will advance to the following weekend’s Elite Eight at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.

    DEER TRAIL — The Deer Trail boys will travel to Brush High School on Friday (March 2) to take on Otis at approximately 6:30 p.m. during opening day of the 1A Northeast Regional basketball tournament.

    The Eagles enter the game the eighth seed at 5-15 overall while Otis is No. 4 at 13-8. The winner of Friday’s game will take on second-seeded Peetz (21-1) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The winner of Saturday’s game advances to the 1A Elite Eight March 8-10 at the Butler-Hancock Arena on the campus of the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

    BYERS — The Byers boys enter the 2A state tournament playoffs as the No. 4 seed with a 17-4 record, coming off a 68-59 victory over arch-rival Limon in the District 4 finals Feb. 24.

    The green-and-white will host Region 4 March 2-3 and will play the first game at 5:30 p.m. against 29th-seeded Union Colony Prep (12-8 overall). The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 13 Vail Christian (17-5) and 20th-seeded Clear Creek (15-7) at 2 p.m. Saturday. The winner of Saturday’s game advances to the Elite Eight March 8-10 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.

    Caucus is March 6, 2018.  This year there are five Democrats going though the caucus process to get on the Democratic primary ballot.  Caucus attendees will weigh in on their preference for Governor.  They will also select delegates to the County, Congressional, and State assemblies.  They will then select two people to represent their precinct as members of the Democrat Central Committee, the rule making body of the county party.

    Larimer County, and southern Weld County.

    Affected Area:  Locations below 7000 ft. in Denver, Broomfield, Boulder, and Jefferson Counties, eastern parts of Adams and Arapahoe Counties, and northern Douglas County. This includes, but is not limited to, locations in the Denver Metro area, Fort Collins, and Greeley.

    Outlook:  Cold and stagnant weather conditions have allowed fine particulate matter concentrations to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category.  This will likely continue through at least Friday afternoon.

    Championship Friday of the Patriot League District Tournament takes place all day tomorrow at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and will tip off at 9 a.m. with the seventh-place game between the seventh-seeded Strasburg girls and No. 8 Platte Valley. The Lady Indians suffered a heartbreaking 47-44 loss at the buzzer against Brush on Feb. 21 to drop to the seventh-place game.

    The Strasburg boys lost to top-seeded and undefeated Sterling 67-37 in the Feb. 21 semifinals and will now play No. 2 Platte Valley in tomorrow’s third-place boys game at about 4:30 p.m. The Broncos lost a 71-68 overtime decision to third-seeded Resurrection Christian last night.
