    Bennett to host 3A regional volleyball Saturday

    AURORA — The Colorado High School Activities Association on Oct. 30 unveiled the 36 teams that qualified for 3A regional volleyball play this weekend and Bennett is among the dozen host schools.

    Bennett is the No. 9 seed and will host No. 16 Eagle Ridge Academy and 28th-seeded Cedaredge on Saturday, Nov. 4. Bennett will face Cedaredge at 1 p.m.; Eagle Ridge versus Cedaredge is scheduled at approximately 2:45 p.m.; and Bennett against Eagle Ridge should take place about 4:30 p.m. The winner of Saturday’s round-robin will advance to the Colorado State Volleyball Championships Nov. 10-11 at the Denver Coliseum.

    No. 1 Bennett, 4th-seeded ‘Burg to host first-round football playoff games

    AURORA — Bennett and Strasburg are on the top half of the 16-team 1A state football playoff bracket, which was released by the Colorado High School Activities Association Oct. 29. Both teams will host a first-round matchup this weekend.

    Bennett is the top seed, according to CHSAA, and will host No. 16 Highland at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3. The game was moved forward from the usual 1 p.m. Saturday playoff kickoff as Bennett hosts a 3A regional tournament the next day.

    The No. 4 Indians will play host to 13th-seeded Wray starting at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4.

    With wins, Bennett would either travel to Paonia or host Peyton Nov. 10 or 11, while the Indians would host Burlington or travel to Bailey to face off with Platte Canyon.

    If Strasburg and Bennett both win the next two weekends, they would play each other in a state semifinal Nov. 17 or 18 with the winner receiving a berth into the state championship game Nov. 25.

  • Lady Indians advance to final four in 3A softball

    AURORA — The third-seeded Strasburg Lady Indians overcame a slow start to down No. 14 Delta 13-3 in the first round of the 3A State Softball Tournament at the Aurora Sports Complex this afternoon and then sweated out a 2-0 pitcher’s dual against sixth-seeded La Junta in the quarterfinals to advance to tomorrow’s semifinals.

    The red-and-black will face off for the third time this season against conference foe Eaton at 10 a.m. tomorrow with the winner advancing to play either Faith Christian or Brush in the championship game at 1:15 p.m

    Each year, the third Friday of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is dedicated to raising awareness for the importance of mammograms. National Mammography Day, which was first introduced in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, falls on October 20 this year. 
     
    Women’s health advocates recommend that women observe this day by scheduling their yearly mammograms.
     
    The goal of National Mammography Day is to increase awareness about the importance of breast cancer screenings, according to the FDA’s Office of Women’s Health.

    Ballots Mailed to Voters of Arapahoe County

    in 18 Jurisdictions

    Ballots for the 2017 Coordinated Election will be mailed to more than 322,000 active registered voters in Arapahoe County. You are eligible to vote in this election if you live in one of 18 municipalities, school districts or special districts with a race or question on the ballot. Approximately 55,000 active voters live outside these jurisdictions and will not receive a ballot. There are no county, state or federal questions this year….

    The 2017 Election is all about local questions and races that impact voters’ daily lives. Your input is critical to help shape your city or town, schools, parks and rec centers, fire department or sanitation district.     1. Voters may return voted ballots by mail with 49 cents paid postage, or deliver it to one of twenty-four 24- hour ballot boxes. Ballots must be received by Arapahoe County by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 7.
    2. Citizens also may visit any one of four Voter Service and Polling Centers between Oct. 30 and Nov. 7 (closed Sunday, Nov. 4) to register to vote or update their registration, request a new or replacement ballot, or vote on an electronic accessible tablet. Locations are available in Aurora, Byers, Centennial and Littleton.

      COMMERCE CITY — Adams County’s search and rescue team will host a public forum on the dangers of winter weather driving @ 10 a.m., at the Bennett Community Center. Topics will include Rampart Search & Rescue’s role on I-70; winter weather preparation and seasonal car kits; winter driving safety tips; what to do if I-70 is closed; and what to expect from the agency during winter emergencies. Rampart Search & Rescue locates stranded motorists; transports essential personnel, patients and medical staff when roads are impassable; and secures or blocks road hazards. The Bennett Community Center is located at 1100 W. Colfax Ave.

    Bennett rec district to celebrate 10th birthday next Tuesday

    BENNETT — The Bennett Park & Recreation District will celebrate its 10th anniversary during its Customer Appreciation Day, Tuesday, Oct. 17.

    The event will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bennett Rec District, 455 S. First St., and will feature birthday cake and other party foods and coffee, tea and hot chocolate.

    The celebration is sponsored by the Town of Bennett, McDonald’s, King Soopers and employees of the Bennett Park & Recreation District.

    Members of the public are invited to not only partake in the celebration but see all of the offerings available through the recreation district and rec center.
