The Bennett Lady Tigers rose up one spot from its RPI rankings to be the 14th seed in the 3A 36-team state volleyball bracket and will travel to Sterling Friday, Nov. 4, to play the host Tigers, the No. 11 seed, and 26th-ranked Lamar. The Bennett-Lamar game is slated to start at approximately 5:30 p.m. with the Sterling-Bennett game to follow afterwards. Tigers and Indians headed for 1A football playoffs
The Strasburg Indians and Bennett Tigers both completed the football regular season with undefeated conference records and league titles and are seeded in the top 4 of the 1A state bracket.
Strasburg is seeded second and will host 15th-seeded Grand Valley in a first round game Saturday. The fourth-seeded Tigers will host Highland, seeded 13th, also this weekend.

BYERS GIRLS TO PLAY IN 2A REGIONAL FRIDAY NIGHT
The Byers Lady Bulldogs finished the 2A District 4 Tournament in third place with a 1-2 record in round-robin play Oct. 29. The green-and-white will play in 2A Region D at Denver Christian at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4. The third team in the region is Simla.

Lady Indians No. 1 seed for 3A State Softball Tournament
After a convincing 18-0 beatdown of Meeker in last weekend’s Region 1 Tournament, the Strasburg Lady Indians will continue their quest for a second straight 3A state softball title when they face off against District 3 rival Platte Valley in the first round of the Colorado State Softball Championships at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 21, at Aurora Sports Complex at the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Dunkirk Street in Aurora. A win would advance the red-and-black to a quarterfinal matchup against either Sterling or Cedaredge Friday afternoon. The semifinals and championship game will be played Saturday. Times set for regional tournament games
The 3A Region 1 Softball Tournament at Strasburg will get underway at 10 a.m. Saturday with Meeker taking on Limon and the winner to face Strasburg at approximately 12:15 p.m. The top two teams from regional play will advance to the state tournament Oct. 21-22 at the Aurora Sports Complex.

COLORADO ROCKIES ANNOUNCE MAJOR LEAGUE COACHING STAFF CHANGES
DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that Third Base Coach Stu Cole, Pitching Coach Steve Foster and Bullpen Coach Darren Holmes will return to the team’s coaching staff for the 2017 season.Hitting Coach Blake Doyle, Catching and Defensive Positioning Coach Rene Lachemann, Bench Coach Tom Runnells and Baserunning/Outfield and First Base Coach Eric Young will not return to the coaching staff in 2017. -
Strasburg softball seeded No. 1; hosting regional tournament Saturday
The Strasburg Lady Indians finished the regular season 17-2 and enter the 3A softball postseason as the top seed and will host the Region 1 tournament Saturday. The red-and-black will face the winner of No. 16 Meeker and 17th-seeded Limon, who enter Saturday with identical 11-8 records. Times of games have not yet been announced. WALT WEISS WILL NOT RETURN AS ROCKIES MANAGER IN 2017
DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that Walt Weiss has decided to step down as manager. His three-year contract with the club ended with the 2016 season.Weiss was named the Rockies manager on Nov. 7, 2012. In four seasons, he compiled a 283-365 record, including a 75-87 mark in 2016. His hiring as manager marked his third stint with the Rockies, as he played four seasons for Colorado (1994-97) and was special assistant to the general manager for seven seasons (2002-08). -
