    STRASBURG — The I-70 Corridor Chamber of Commerce will host a planning committee meeting for 2017 Christmas on the Corridor from 5:30-6:30 p.m.Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Denver East Strasburg KOA conference room.
    Corridor residents interested in assisting with this year’s event are urged to attend and present their ideas. Volunteers are also being sought.
    Christmas on the Corridor is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3.

  • CDOT with Imagine Colorado Launches Technology-driven RoadX Bicycle and Pedestrian Challenge

    STATEWIDE – Approximately 500 Coloradans die in road accidents every year. Bicyclists and pedestrians account for 12% of these fatalities across the state. To address the unique safety needs of bicyclists and pedestrians, the Colorado Department of Transportation today launches the RoadX Bicycle and Pedestrian Challenge. In partnership with the Colorado Innovation Network (COIN)’s Imagine Colorado, the RoadX Bicycle and Pedestrian Challenge engages Coloradans in the pursuit of technology-driven safety solutions. 

     

    RoadX is Colorado’s bold commitment to national leadership in using innovative technology to improve the state’s transportation system. “The advent of the personal computer, the Internet and smart devices has dramatically changed how we conduct business and live our lives,” says Shailen Bhatt, Executive Director, Colorado Department of Transportation. “Transportation has yet to fully benefit from these advancements and the RoadX program furthers the integration of technology into our industry.” In this vein, the $500,000 RoadX Bicycle and Pedestrian Challenge asks entrepreneurs, ideators, and communities to develop inventive technological solutions to protect bicyclists and pedestrians in Colorado. 

     

    “Our goal is to transform Colorado’s transportation system into one of the safest and most reliable in the nation by harnessing the power of technology,” explains Amy Ford, Communications Director, Colorado Department of Transportation. “We’re inviting Coloradans into the process to leverage today’s technological renaissance in creating a safer bicycling and pedestrian experience for all.”

     

    The RoadX Bicycle and Pedestrian Challenge consists of two tracks designed to not only solicit great ideas, but also actionable concepts. 

     

    Track One, Idea-thon: 

    • Encourages participants to submit a groundbreaking technological idea to improve bicycling and pedestrian safety
    • Up to five winners will be chosen with a prize of $10,000 each.

     

    Track Two, Do-athon: 

    • Prompts Coloradans to enter a unique and implementable idea and deploy the technology within eight months.
    • Up to five finalists will be chosen and each will receive $75,000 to build proof of concept. 
    • The team that deploys the best working technology over eight months will receive $150,000 to continue the program. The runner up will receive $50,000 and third place will receive $25,000.

     

    “We believe wholeheartedly in the power of collective insights to solve problems in our communities,” says Anna Ewing, Executive Director, Colorado Innovation Network. “We’re looking forward to seeing Colorado’s most innovative ideas – establishing our state as a leader in terms of technology-driven safety.”

     

    The call for proposals opens today and all entries must be submitted through Imagine Colorado via [LINK]. The RoadX Bicycle and Pedestrian Challenge is open to all Coloradans over the age of 18 who may submit ideas either individually or in teams, and in English or Spanish. All proposals are due February 27, 2017. Finalists will be selected on March 31, 2017.

    Denver Transit Partners To Reduce Lanes on the West Terminal Approach this Weekend

    DENVER  ­ Nov. 3, 2016 – On Sat., Nov. 5, a section of inbound Peña Boulevard where it splits towards the west terminal entrance will be reduced from the current three lanes to one lane from approximately 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. All four lanes will reopen at 4 a.m. on Sun., Nov. 6 returning this section of inbound Peña Boulevard to its original configuration.
     
    The Regional Transportation District’s (RTD) contractor Denver Transit Partners (DTP) has been replacing waterproofing that is part of RTD’s University of Colorado A Line. This project began May 2016 and will be complete on Nov. 6.
     
    Motorists should expect reduced speed limits in the area of the construction from approximately 7 p.m. Sat., Nov. 5 to 4 a.m. on Sun. Nov. 6. Drivers are asked to slow down and use caution in the construction area.

    Several County facilities closed on Election Day, except for voter services

    Several Arapahoe County facilities will be closed to the public Nov. 8 Election Day, with the exception of election-related services.

    The Board of County Commissioners approved the Election Day closure of the Administration Building in Littleton, CentrePoint Plaza in Aurora and Lima Plaza campus in Centennial at the request of Clerk and Recorder Matt Crane. These facilities will operate only as Voter Service and Polling Centers and ballot drop-off locations from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. In addition, all Clerk and Recorder branches will be closed Nov. 8, and will reopen to the public at 10 a.m., Nov. 9. 

    These closures are intended to free up parking spaces for voters and enable employees to assist with Election Day, when voter turnout is expected to be high. County employees at these facilities will report to work as scheduled and may be called upon to help with election tasks if necessary. 

    The following buildings will be closed Nov. 8, except for election services:

    • County Administration Building at 5334 S. Prince St., Littleton, including the Assessor, Treasurer and Commissioners’ Offices, and the Clerk and Recorder’s Motor Vehicle, Driver’s License, Passport and Recording services. In addition, the Board of County Commissioners has canceled its Nov. 8 public meeting and study sessions. The lobby will be open as a Voter Service and Polling Center.
    • CentrePoint Plaza at 14980 E. Alameda Dr., Aurora, including Human Services. The main level will be open as a Voter Service and Polling Center.
    • Lima Plaza at 6924-6964 S. Lima St., Centennial, which includes the Arapahoe/Douglas Works! Workforce Center, Clerk and Recorder Branch, Public Works and Development, Open Spaces and Judicial Services. Probation Services will be open for normal business. The Clerk and Recorder Branch will be open only as a Voter Service and Polling Center, and will resume normal operations at 10 a.m., Nov. 9. 
    • Clerk and Recorder Aurora Branch at 490 S. Chambers Road, Aurora will be closed except for a drive-up ballot drop-off, and will reopen at 10 a.m., Nov. 9. 
    • Clerk and Recorder Byers Branch at 538 N Hwy 36, Byers will be closed, and will reopen at 10 a.m., Nov. 9. The nearest Voter Service and Polling Center and ballot box location is Kelver Library.

    Voters must be in line at a ballot box or Voter Service and Polling Center by 7 p.m. on Election Day in order to cast their ballot.
